As mentioned in my Instagram post, here is the detailed explanations of how fermented foods affect our digestive system and how they can be our healthiest choice for any meal.
Fermented food contains good bacteria
- We know very well how fermentation takes place. For those who do not know what happens in the process here's a small explanation: Fermentation is breaking down of certain organic chemicals like carbs and proteins by bacteria and yeast.
- It promotes the growth of good bacterias known as Probiotics.
- Probiotics help in improving digestion system.

Probiotics improve digestion health
- The probiotics generated during fermentation also promotes the growth of good bacteria present in our alimentary canal a.k.a. gut or digestive tract.
- It helps in improving body's digestive process which would lead to several health benefits like curing constipation, diarrhoea, gas etc. digestive issue.
Fermentation makes food easier to digest
- As mentioned above, fermented food breaks down the nutrients in food which makes them easier to digest which would lead to better absorption of those nutrients by our body.
Fermented food and weight loss
- You may be eating healthy food but if it isn't getting digested properly, your body won't be able to absorb the nutrients from it.
- Including fermented food in your diet would promote intestinal bacteria which would:
- Produce digestive enzymes and lactic acid
- Increase immunity
- Increase omega-3 fatty acids
- Remove harmful bacteria
- Remove toxins from cell tissues.
- All the above mentioned health benefits would reduce inflammation of our body.
- Inflammation is the main reason for growth of hormones responsible for activating fat triggers.
- Growth of these inflammatory hormones makes our cells resistant to fat regulatory hormones (Insulin and Leptin) which leads to obesity.
Note: Few people may experience temporary increase of gas due to the high content of bacteria.
