"Tiramisu" is an Italian dessert not-so-famous among us. The word tiramisu means "Lift me up / Pick me up / Cheer me up". The most authentic version of tiramisu consists of mascarpone cheese, whipped cream, lady fingers (No! I do not mean bhindi 😂.This one is a sweet bread type bakery product), black coffee, dark rum, egg yolks etc. There are many versions of tiramisu available in hotels and restaurants like eggless, alcohol free etc. Here is my tiramisu creation. Strawberry flavored Red Velvet Tiramisu.
Red Velvet Tiramisu |
Key utensils/appliances used: Hand blender (Used for ice cream and whipping cream), 2 deep bowls, flat based deep container.
Ingredients:
- 100 gm. mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 200 gm strawberry flavored red velvet sponge cake (Click here for recipe)
- 200 ml diluted strawberry crush or fresh strawberry jam.
- 5 drops Strawberry essence/extract
- Red food color (I don't prefer)
Method:
- Cut sponge cake into 1" thick fingers.
- Take mascarpone cheese in a bowl and whisk it with a hand machine.
- In a large deep bowl, take 1 cup of whipping cream, powdered sugar and strawberry extract. Whip it till you get stiff peaks. (Note: While whipping the cream, it will increase 2 or 3 times in volume. Therefore take a large bowl for whipping)
- Fold the mascarpone cheese and whipped cream together.
- Now starts the assembly. Dip each of the cake pieces in strawberry crush/strawberry jam and place them in the flat based deep container.
- Once completed the 1st layer, pour some crush over it. None of the pieces should be dry.
- Spread the whipped mixture of mascarpone cheese and cream on this layer. Spread it evenly using a spatula.
- Repeat steps 5 ,6 and 7 till it reaches the top of container. The topmost layer should be of cheese cream mixture.
- Once completed the layering, Chill it in refrigerator for 5-6 hours.
Serving suggestions: Serve it chilled! No other suggestions needed.
